This is a fantastic opportunity for GSLIS students to gain experience in an award-winning public library.

Program Highlights

  • Opportunities in many areas, including:
    -Adult services (reference and advisory services, technology instruction, book discussions and programming)
    -Community engagement (outreach and partnerships with organizations serving children and families, programming, reference and advisory services to youth)
    -Young Adult Services (programming, drop-in activities, staff the Junior High Zone and High School Lounge, hands-on activities in the BOOMBox STEAM lab and Digital Media lab)
  • Mentorship from library staff depending on career goals and interests
  • Learn more about serving patrons online through the library website and social media
  • Assist patrons with hands-on, experiential learning
  • Leadership and change management training
  • 10-15 hours per week at Skokie Public Library
  • Monthly cohort meetings with GSLIS academic advisors and Skokie Public Library mentors
  • Get a sense of the operational side of public libraries
  • Local and online workshops and conferences
