Fall 2016 Guadalajara International Book Fair opportunity
Students who have participated previously.
GSLIS is again proud to offer LIS 796 - Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico during the fall 2016 semester. The conference runs from November 26 to December 4, where students will visit with publishers from more than 35 countries, explore issues in international publishing (acquisition, rights, translation, etc.), consider issues of cultural diversity and expression in literature, and look at the newest and best Spanish language materials from around the world.
Library and cultural site visits include a trip to the Jalisco State Public Library, the famous Orozco murals and frescos at the Jalisco Government Palace and Hospicio Cabañas and an afternoon at the nearby city of Tlaquepaque,
famous for its arts and crafts. The class will also participate in a portion of the Annual Symposium on Libraries and Librarianship hosted by the University of Guadalajara.
The 3-credit hour course is led by John W. Berry, runs annually in the fall semester, and is open to students-at-large as well as degree-seeking GSLIS students. To register, please visit myDU; and select "Course Search."
Financial assistance is available from the American Library Association-FIL "Free Pass" program. The deadline for application to the ALA/FIL FREE PASS Program is September 2, 2016. Click here for the Application Form.
Participation is limited to 8 students.
